Description

A classic warm cinnamon apple crisp loaded with spiced orchard fruit and topped with a thick, golden old fashioned oat crumble.


Ingredients

for the apple part:

6 large apples (3 granny smith, 3 sweeter variety)

1/4 cup light brown sugar

1/4 cup granulated sugar

3 Tablespoons corn starch

1 Tablespoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1/8 teaspoon ground cloves

3/4 teaspoon salt

for the crisp topping:

3/4 cup butter, cut into cubes

1 1/3 cup old fashioned oats

1 1/2 cups flour

1/2 cup light brown sugar

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 Tablespoon ground cinnamon


Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.

2. Toss sliced apples with 1/4 cup brown sugar, 1/4 cup granulated sugar, corn starch, 1 tbsp cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and 3/4 tsp salt.

3. Spread apple mixture into the prepared baking dish.

4. Combine old fashioned oats, flour, 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1/2 cup granulated sugar, 1/4 tsp salt, and 1 tbsp cinnamon in a bowl.

5. Cut in 3/4 cup cold cubed butter until crumbly, then scatter topping evenly over the apple layer.

6. Bake for 45 to 50 minutes until juices bubble and top is golden brown; rest 15 minutes before serving warm.

Notes

Mix Granny Smith with Honeycrisp or Fuji for balanced flavor. Use cold butter for a extra crispy oat streusel.
