Description
Flaky and golden bakery-style apple turnovers filled with spiced Granny Smith apples and drizzled with sweet cream glaze.
Ingredients
Apple Turnover Ingredients:
1 lb puff pastry, (2 sheets) thawed according to package instructions
1 Tbsp all-purpose flour, for dusting
1 1/4 lb Granny Smith apples, (3 medium) peeled, cored, and diced into 1/3″ thick pieces
1 Tbsp unsalted butter
1/4 cup brown sugar, lightly packed
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/8 tsp salt
1 egg+ 1 Tbsp water for egg wash
For the Glaze:
1/2 cup powdered sugar
1–2 Tbsp heavy whipping cream
Instructions
1. Sauté diced apples in melted butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt for 6 to 8 minutes until tender; cool completely.
2. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C), line a baking sheet with parchment, dust counter with flour, and cut each puff pastry sheet into 4 squares.
3. Spoon 2 tbsp cooled filling onto each square, brush edges with egg wash, fold into triangles, and crimp edges with a fork.
4. Place on baking sheet, cut 2 steam slits in tops, brush with egg wash, and bake at 400°F for 20 to 23 minutes until golden brown.
5. Whisk powdered sugar and heavy whipping cream in a small bowl until smooth and silky.
6. Drizzle sweet cream glaze generously over warm turnovers before serving.
Notes
Cool apple filling completely before assembling. Crimp edges firmly with a fork to prevent leaking.
