Description

Classic old-fashioned Apple Betty loaded with thinly sliced apples, orange juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and a buttery golden crumb topping.

Ingredients

Scale

4 cups thinly sliced apples

¼ cup orange juice

1 cup white sugar or to taste

¾ cup all-purpose flour

½ teaspoon ground cinnamon

¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg

1 pinch salt

½ cup cold butter, cubed

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease an 8×8-inch baking dish.

2. Arrange sliced apples in the dish and drizzle orange juice evenly over top.

3. Whisk sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt together in a bowl.

4. Cut in cold cubed butter with a pastry blender until crumbly clumps form.

5. Scatter buttery crumb mixture evenly over the apples.

6. Bake for 35 to 45 minutes until golden brown and bubbly; rest 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

Slice apples thinly and uniformly. Keep butter cold for a crisp, clumpy crumb topping.
