Classic old-fashioned Apple Betty loaded with thinly sliced apples, orange juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and a buttery golden crumb topping.
Ingredients
4 cups thinly sliced apples
¼ cup orange juice
1 cup white sugar or to taste
¾ cup all-purpose flour
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 pinch salt
½ cup cold butter, cubed
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease an 8×8-inch baking dish.
2. Arrange sliced apples in the dish and drizzle orange juice evenly over top.
3. Whisk sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt together in a bowl.
4. Cut in cold cubed butter with a pastry blender until crumbly clumps form.
5. Scatter buttery crumb mixture evenly over the apples.
6. Bake for 35 to 45 minutes until golden brown and bubbly; rest 10 minutes before serving.
Notes
Slice apples thinly and uniformly. Keep butter cold for a crisp, clumpy crumb topping.
