Description

Soft and spiced Hot Cross Buns with raisins or currants and icing crosses, perfect for Easter or breakfast.


Ingredients

Scale

4 cups all-purpose flour

1/3 cup granulated sugar

1 packet active dry yeast

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup warm whole milk

1/4 cup melted unsalted butter

2 large eggs

3/4 cup raisins or currants

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Icing Cross

1/2 cup powdered sugar

12 teaspoons milk


Instructions

1. Combine milk and yeast, let foam

2. Mix flour, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt

3. Add butter, eggs, vanilla, yeast mixture

4. Knead dough until smooth

5. Fold in raisins or currants

6. Let dough rise until doubled

7. Shape dough into buns

8. Let buns rise until puffy

9. Preheat oven and bake 18-20 minutes

10. Pipe icing crosses on warm buns
