Description
Soft, sweet Hawaiian dinner rolls made with pineapple juice and honey for a tender, fluffy texture.
Ingredients
1 cup warm pineapple juice (110°F/43°C)
1/2 cup warm whole milk
2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup honey
1/3 cup unsalted butter, melted
1 tsp salt
3 1/2 – 4 cups all-purpose flour
1 large egg
Instructions
1. Combine warm pineapple juice, warm milk, yeast, sugar and honey; let sit 5-10 minutes until frothy.
2. Mix flour and salt in a large bowl.
3. Add melted butter, egg, and yeast mixture; mix to form soft dough.
4. Knead dough 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
5. Place dough in greased bowl; cover and let rise until doubled (1-1.5 hours).
6. Punch down dough and divide into 12-15 balls; arrange in greased pan.
7. Cover and let rise until doubled (45 minutes).
8. Bake at 180°C (350°F) for 20-25 minutes, until golden.
9. Brush warm rolls with melted butter; cool slightly and serve.
Notes
Use bread flour for a chewier texture.
Add coarse sugar on top before baking for crunch.
Use canned pineapple juice if fresh unavailable.
Make smaller rolls for sliders.
