Description

Soft, spiced, and drizzled with a sweet vanilla glaze, this Gingerbread Loaf is the perfect cozy bake for the holidays.


Ingredients

1¾ cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

1 teaspoon ground ginger

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

¼ teaspoon ground cloves

½ teaspoon salt

½ cup unsalted butter, softened

½ cup brown sugar

½ cup molasses

1 large egg

¾ cup hot water

1 cup powdered sugar

23 tablespoons milk

1 teaspoon vanilla extract


Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan and line with parchment paper.

2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and salt.

3. Cream butter and brown sugar until fluffy. Add molasses and egg.

4. Gradually mix in dry ingredients alternating with hot water.

5. Pour into pan and bake 45–50 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.

6. Cool completely before glazing.

7. Whisk powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth and drizzle over loaf.

Notes

Add orange zest for a citrus twist.

Ensure loaf is cool before glazing.

Wrap tightly to keep moist for several days.
