Description

French onion grilled cheese with caramelized onions, melted Gruyère, and golden toasted bread.


Ingredients

2 large yellow onions, sliced

2 tablespoons unsalted butter

1 tablespoon olive oil

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

1 teaspoon fresh thyme (optional)

4 slices sourdough bread

2 tablespoons butter, softened

1 1/2 cups shredded Gruyère cheese

1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese


Instructions

1. Cook onions with butter and oil over medium heat until caramelized.

2. Heat skillet over medium-low heat.

3. Butter bread slices and place in skillet.

4. Add cheese and caramelized onions.

5. Top with remaining bread slices.

6. Cook until golden and cheese melts.

7. Slice and serve warm.

Notes
