Description

A cozy, creamy French onion beef and rice casserole with caramelized onions, tender beef, and melted cheese—a perfect comfort meal.

Ingredients

Scale

1 lb ground beef

1 medium onion, thinly sliced

2 tablespoons butter

1 teaspoon garlic, minced

1 teaspoon dried thyme

1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

1 1/2 cups cooked white rice

1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup

1/2 cup beef broth

1 cup shredded Swiss or Gruyère cheese

Salt and pepper to taste

Optional: 1/4 cup French fried onions or extra shredded cheese

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 375°F and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.

2. Melt butter in skillet; cook onions 8–10 minutes until caramelized.

3. Add ground beef; cook until browned and drain.

4. Stir in garlic, thyme, Worcestershire, salt, and pepper; cook 1–2 minutes.

5. In a bowl, combine cooked rice, cream of mushroom soup, beef broth, and half the cheese.

6. Add beef and onion mixture; mix well.

7. Pour into prepared pan.

8. Sprinkle remaining cheese and optional fried onions.

9. Bake 20–25 minutes until bubbly and cheese melts.

10. Let rest 5 minutes and serve warm.

Notes

Substitute brown rice or cauliflower rice for a healthier option.

Add vegetables like mushrooms, peas, or bell peppers.

Use a mix of cheeses for extra creaminess.

Prepare ahead and bake from chilled.
