Description

Classic Butter Tarts are rich, gooey, and buttery with a flaky pastry crust — a beloved Canadian dessert.

Ingredients

Scale

1 ¼ cups all-purpose flour

¼ teaspoon salt

½ cup cold unsalted butter, cubed

23 tablespoons ice water

½ cup packed brown sugar

¼ cup corn syrup or maple syrup

¼ cup unsalted butter, melted

1 large egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

¼ teaspoon salt

⅓ cup raisins or chopped pecans (optional)

Instructions

1. Combine flour and salt. Cut in butter until crumbly.

2. Add ice water until dough forms. Chill 30 minutes.

3. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease muffin tin.

4. Roll dough to ⅛-inch thickness. Cut circles and fit into cups.

5. Whisk brown sugar, syrup, melted butter, egg, vanilla, and salt.

6. Add raisins or pecans to tart shells if using.

7. Pour filling two-thirds full.

8. Bake 18–22 minutes until golden.

9. Cool before serving.

Notes

Use maple syrup for richer flavor.

Do not overfill tart shells to avoid overflow.

Bake shorter for gooier filling, longer for firmer texture.
