Description

Cheesy Tennessee Onions are a Southern classic side dish made with sweet Vidalia onions, butter, and a creamy, golden cheese topping. Perfect for holidays, potlucks, or Sunday dinners.

Ingredients

Scale

3 large sweet onions (Vidalia preferred), sliced into ½-inch rings

4 tablespoons butter, melted

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon black pepper

2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or blend)

½ cup grated Parmesan cheese

½ cup mayonnaise or sour cream

Fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.

2. Slice onions into ½-inch rings and arrange evenly in dish.

3. Drizzle melted butter over onions; season with garlic powder, salt, and pepper.

4. In a bowl, mix shredded cheese, Parmesan, and mayonnaise until smooth.

5. Spread cheese mixture evenly over onions.

6. Bake 30–35 minutes until onions are tender and topping is golden.

7. Garnish with parsley and serve warm.

Notes

Vidalia onions are traditional, but any sweet onion will work.

Add crushed Ritz crackers or breadcrumbs for extra crunch.

Make ahead by assembling, refrigerating, and baking before serving.

Serve with roast meats, barbecue, or holiday meals.
