Ingredients
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
½ teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
¾ cup unsalted butter, softened
1 cup granulated sugar
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup sour cream or plain yogurt
2 cups peeled and diced apples
Topping:
¼ cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
½ cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch baking pan.
2. Whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
3. Beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
4. Add eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla extract.
5. Mix in sour cream until smooth.
6. Gradually fold in dry ingredients until just combined.
7. Fold in diced apples gently.
8. Pour batter into prepared pan and smooth the top.
9. Combine brown sugar, cinnamon, melted butter, and nuts (if using) for the topping.
10. Sprinkle topping evenly over batter.
11. Bake for 45–50 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
